Appartus

Control. Discipline. Precision.

Launching soon. Initial consultation and assessment required.

Our Apparatus offering takes us further into the system of movement originally developed by Joseph Pilates. Pilates called his method Contrology, and his work extended well beyond the Reformer to a broader collection of apparatus designed to challenge and support the body through resistance, assistance, gravity and controlled movement.

At Esteem, our Apparatus program will initially incorporate the Wunda Chair and Ladder Barrel, creating an opportunity to experience a different side of the Pilates method.

The Wunda Chair

Compact in size but highly versatile, the Wunda Chair uses a spring-loaded pedal to create resistance and assistance across seated, standing and supported exercises. Because many Chair movements provide less physical support than the Reformer, the apparatus can place significant demands on control, balance, coordination, core strength, upper-body strength and stability.

The Ladder Barrel

The Ladder Barrel combines a curved barrel with a ladder structure. Its shape creates a unique environment for working with the spine and exploring flexion, extension, lateral movement, strength and flexibility. It can be used to support and challenge range of motion while developing greater control through movement.

Why Apparatus?

Together, the Wunda Chair and Ladder Barrel allow us to explore movement beyond what is possible on the Reformer. Apparatus is not simply about completing exercises; it asks for concentration, precision and an understanding of how your body is moving. Programming is progressive, with instruction shaped around the individual in front of us.
